If your taste buds tingle at the temptation of a new dish, your fingertips love to brush a long row of fine wines before picking just the right one, and your heart ticks a tad quicker with the scent of a perfectly aged rum…you might just go weak in the knees when you hear about the Barbados Food & Wine and Rum Festival.
Running from Thursday November 21st to Monday November 25th 2013, there is enough activity to keep you full. Thursday night is a big lime at Oistins, where fresh fish is caught daily and locals and visitors swarm by night for music, drinks and food. Friday will host a late night at the Beach House on the west coast before Saturday’s cooking demos with the international renowned chefs. These demos will be held at the Hilton Barbados Resort and will be interwoven with wine seminars and a rum seminar.
Sizzle Street Saturday will be at Queen’s Park, in the heart of Bridgetown, featuring the best in Bajan street food, topped off with the flagship of the Festival ‘Ambrosia’ at the beautiful grounds of Lion Castle Polo Estate. Sunday’s family focus ‘Bajan Fiesta’ event will include a final cooking demo, followed by a premium event at the Cliff on the platinum coast, featuring Iron Chef Jose Garces. Finally, Monday gives you the opportunity to indulge in a boat cruise and tour the Mount Gay Rum facility to learn more about the staple of Barbados. Mixologist, Rum Ambassador and Bajan Chesterfield Browne will be only too happy to share some of his favourite cocktails with you.
International chefs and authorities on wine will be featured including Josh Wesson, co-founder of Best Cellars, a chain of award-winning wine stores. When it comes to breadth and body, from the silky smooth, to the spicy, to the velvety and sensual dark reds, Josh will be present to chat about understanding wine, or just to raise a glass.
For the dishes, this year’s line up of internationally renowned chefs includes the award-winning and patron of the Festival, Marcus Samuelsson, a judge on the Food Network show ‘Chopped’, author and professor of culinary science. International Food Network stars like, Aaron McCargo Jr., Anne Burrell, host of ‘Secrets of A Restaurant Chef’ and ‘Chef Wanted’ and Jose Garces, Iron Chef and owner of numerous restaurants, as well as top Canadian chef Mark McEwan, will all be coming to Barbados to share their wealth of knowledge and experience.
The Barbados Food and Wine and Rum Festival is the event that will leave you licking your lips in anticipation.
