For the first time in more than 50 years, U.S. commercial flights will be available to and from the formerly-forbidden island of Cuba.
JetBlue will take off on this historic flight this Wednesday morning (August 31) from Fort Lauderdale International Airport and land in Santa Clara, Cuba. However, amongst the positive support for this endeavor, in some there is a growing concern. Queries are being raised about how this now-open channel may give political radicals an opportunity to access both Cuba and the U.S. The relationship between both countries is only now beginning to soften, and this critical period may usher in either great gain for Cuba, or increased tension for the U.S. For the average citizen, however, it may be a chance to reconnect with loved ones or discover a rich culture.
